Laura Lookout Tower

Laura’s Tower & Ice Glen: Laura’s Tower trail will take you through old pine and hemlock forest, rock outcroppings, birch and mountain laurel. The reward at the end of this steep 3/4 mile assent is the relic of an old metal fire tower, which offers a panoramic view of the Berkshires, NY Catskills and Vermont’s Green Mountains. On the Ice Glen trail you will climb over and around magnificent rock outcroppings as you navigate though this magical glacial ravine, lined with old growth trees, the oldest in the northeast. The Glen stays cool year round, and you may even see snow and ice in the middle of summer! A host favorite, and a must see in Stockbridge.

Lake Mansfield

The pond is open to the public for seasonal recreation. Visitors are welcome. A parking area provides access to the sandy beach front, grassy shaded picnic area, swings, and forest trails. Portable toilets are available May through September. Visitors to the Lake Mansfield Recreation Area enjoy swimming, boating, picnicking, fishing, walking trails and nature watching. The beach area is closed to pets. Dogs are welcome to access the lake at the boat launch area. The Lake Mansfield Recreation Area allows for road and forest trail walks, giving visitors opportunities to enjoy the beauty and wildlife of the lake and forest. The Lake Mansfield Conservation Forest features an accessible trail network within a 29-acre woodland. The majority of the trail is built to accessible standards, including gentle slopes and a crushed stone trail surface. The shady trails provide a complement to the open lake.

Short easy hike from the lower parking lot next to or close to the river. Bash Bish Falls State Park, but I suggest to use the parking in Taconic State Park, and the trail up from there, as you can find a small swimming pond and an iron works trails too from the same spot.
Jug End State Reservation And Wildlife

1,158-acre Jug End offers some of the best scenic views of the Berkshires. In addition to having its own trails, Jug End also offers access to and parking for the Appalachian Trail. You can hike, hunt and fish here.

Bartholomew’s Cobble is located in Sheffield, Massachusetts. This private reserve has approximately 5 miles of moderate hiking trails. The cobble is mostly limestone and marble, which alters the soil and creates a unique environment that supports a wide variety of flora. You can either hike up Hurlbut’s trail for scenic overview of the area, or hike the low-lying trails along the Housatonic. There is an admission fee. Dogs are not allowed.

The 660+ acres of linked hayfields and forests of the Hollow Fields reserve offer the Berkshires’ best view of Yokun Ridge, and abundant bobolinks nesting in the grasslands. Enjoy walking the path through the fields or explore the trails and woods roads in adjoining forestland, including a 45-acre parcel owned by the Town of Richmond.
Mass Audubon Canoe Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary

Nice looped trails, mostly flat and wooded, some through wetland areas. Beautiful large pines and a nice meadow view at the start of the hike. It's very close and makes a good quick walk.
Benedict Pond Loop

Benedict Pond is a great place to swim. It's a beautiful drive getting there. The pond is located inside Beartown State Park but drive through Stockbridge for a better ride as the Lee entrance is a rough road.
Roaring Brook Trail
Williamstown, MA
Head out on this 6.6-mile out-and-back trail near Keene Valley, New York. Generally considered a challenging route. This is a very popular area for hiking and snowshoeing, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are February through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
October Mountain State Forest Campground

At 16,500 acres, October Mountain is the largest state forest in Massachusetts. You'll find trails for any level of hiking experience, and you can also visit nearby Tanglewood, popular music venue and home to the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Umpachene Falls
New Marlborough, MA 01259
At Umpachene Falls Park, the Umpachene River dumps into the Konkapot River in a small park maintained by the town of New Marlborough. You will need inside connections to visit this waterfall: the park is for New Marlborough residents and their guests only. However, if the grounds-keeper is on-site, they may grant you access if you ask politely and promise to respect the park by leaving no trace of your visit.
Swimming is not only allowed here, it is encouraged! Children will love to swim in the lazy Konkapot River, while adults will enjoy wading in the pools of Umpachene Falls. There are tables and swings in the park, so bring a lunch and budget at least a few hours to enjoy this charming little park.
Onota Lake Beach

Onota Lake is a 617-acre lake located entirely within the City of Pittsfield and is owned and managed by the City of Pittsfield. Many recreational opportunities are provided by the lake and are enjoyed by area residents as well as those visiting the Berkshires. However, like many area lakes, Onota Lake is threatened. While these problems are not unusual, atypical, or severe, they do require attention.

Becket Quarry

The quarry, known during its operating days as the Chester-Hudson Quarry, played a key role in the early development of the Town of Becket and the surrounding area. Granite from this quarry was used for monuments in many states. The quarry was operational from the 1860’s to the 1940’s.
When the quarry was abandoned, much of the equipment and structures were left just as it was (as if the quarrymen had gone for lunch and never returned). The site has stayed the same, plus some rust, until now.
The Historic Quarry and Forest is open year round, dawn to dusk, and admission is free to the public.
